Using the website

The website is intended to inspire, recruit and inform avian breeders to become dedicated conservation breeders of pekin robins and other softbill bird species.

To anyone who intends to breed or care for pekin robins as companion birds, I suggest to read through the following pages to benefit from my experience with these birds. I started with a breeding pair of pekin robins in 1999 and raised over 160 to independence since. Pekins are no longer readily available. It has become a privilege to own pekin robins.

The website is centered around the sequential investigation of the species to explore their biology, behavior, housing, general care, breeding, feeding, to become an accomplished breeder and or keeper of pekin robins. The described husbandry regimes are basic principles that fit various softbills. To that extend I encourage you to reads through the entire section Pekin Robin Care and Breeding as much as possible. There are purposely no links for sub titles to discourage “cherry picking” of information that does not serve you well by reading it out of context. The website information is a much abbreviated version of the content of my recently published book. It has well over 200 drawings and photos.

Pekin Robins and Small Softbills: management and breeding, 2007,

I honestly recommend to acquire the book and insist that you do if you are provided with birds on breeding loan agreement.  The book is heralded as the most comprehensive hand book on the subject by leading aviculturists around the world.

You can read about my experience in breeding other softbills under Other Softbills and Publications. You can view photos and sketches throughout this site.

The website is not set up for dialogue. To get in touch with me on related questions use my email : silvpine@island .net or call me at 250 335 1640.
